The story
On a neighbourhood rooftop, a boy raises a homemade antenna built with radio wire and two boards from the attic. Above the tiles, a strange sequence begins to repeat itself: three pulses, one pause, then three pulses again. It is not just any noise: it is an impossible frequency that crosses seven towers at once and reaches, later, the observatory where Dr. Elena Vargas asks something very simple: «Don't turn that off». That signal becomes an expedition. Twelve people —a captain, a cartographer, engineers, a pilot, a doctor, a poet of the radar— accept a six-year journey with no promise of return, to answer a call no one else wants to decipher. The ship takes off under the eyes of a Control that expects trophies, evidence and a flag. Along the way, nine minutes without the Earth teach them that one simple word can hold an entire crew together. Gravity remembers, and with it the affections return: plates kept aside, blue bicycles, letters left next to a chess board. When Saturn fits in the window, the astronomer forgets the reports and the pilot asks for time to watch it rotate; what did not add up in fuel turns them into a better team. At the end of the route, among seven green moons that converse through crystal filaments, the crew discovers that the signal was neither a cry for help nor a surrender: it was a map for encounters, a language of pulses, a humble introduction. From Control, Salvatierra orders them to descend, plant a marker and come back with images. Captain Elena, Amina and the Cartographer dare to say no: discovering does not authorise occupying. Three degrees to the left, and with fuel enough for a single attempt, they decide to return without empire. The Earth appears again on the radar. When the hatch opens, the smell of rain and bread greets them; the youngest kisses the ground and bursts out laughing. They come back to the same rooftop where it all began: the antenna is still intact, the first tape starts turning. They send one last message: «We're back. Thank you. We're still listening». And this time, the sky answers with a variation. CARTOGRAFÍA DEL ASOMBRO is a cosmic journey about curiosity, the language one learns by listening, the beauty that will not fit inside reason, and the responsibility that appears when someone understands that discovering grants no rights, only the duty to understand. A rock opera in which the universe stops being a territory to conquer and becomes an interlocutor. Because from very far away one also learns a very close truth: everything fits inside a pale blue dot, and there is no spare one around.
