The concept
Some songs tell what happened; others tell what could have happened. On DREX’s seventh album, there is no way to tell which is which, and that is precisely the idea: half of it is true.
Fifteen small stories told at full volume. A son who visits his father every afternoon and introduces himself as a stranger. A man who writes the list that puts his colleague out of work, then cannot bring himself to call him. Two suitcases to start over in another country. A village that loses its school and bakery, and someone who stays behind to keep everyone’s keys. A song playing on a workshop radio when its author was fifteen that changed his life. And a night, a bend in the road, and a steering wheel nobody should have taken.
This is hard rock in Spanish, with big guitars and choruses to shout along to, with lyrics that face guilt, the passing of time, and everything we leave unsaid. The cover sums it up better than any explanation: a photograph torn in half, one side in colour and the other in black and white.
Lyrics and music: Joaquín De Ramón.
